EWiEn has Signed a local subsidy agreement with GIZ Energy Programme Ethiopia (EPE) EWiEn.

Addis Ababa January 2021- The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit  (GIZ) GmbH Energy Programme Ethiopia signed a local subsidy agreement with Ethiopian Women in Energy (EWiEn)  with the main objective of contributing towards increasing the engagement of women in the Ethiopia energy sector.

The new EWiEn-GIZ agreement will promote women’s active participation by empowering women, creating networks among women energy professionals, and increasing the visibility of women working in the energy sector. EPE will assist EWiEn to increase its visibility among stakeholders, strengthen its capacity, and promote women’s roles in the energy sector.

The agreement provides support for a number of actions that are part of EWiEn’s annual plan, such as strengthening EWIEn’s institutional framework, providing a space for women to participate in the energy sector on a national scale via networking, and also capacitating and empowering women through training and mentorship programs.

EWiEn envisions to see Ethiopian women at the forefront of the energy sector as change agents and beneficiaries in the effort to provide universal access to clean and modern energy. The institution’s goal is to address women’s energy access challenges by empowering women in the energy sector through networking and training, as well as building partnerships with energy project implementers and stakeholders.

GIZ operates in Ethiopia on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and other national and international partners. Among many other fields of activity in Ethiopia include supporting the country in the renewable energy sector along with other stakeholders. GIZ has many renewable energy programs that support a long-term supply of electric power to low-income families, public infrastructure, and small to medium-sized businesses, with a focus on rural areas. Besides, effective renewable energy and energy efficiency solutions projects are supported by the institution.
